CitySprouts Garden

citysprouts gardenThe school garden at Kennedy–Longfellow is in a fenced area on the south-facing side across from the city playing fields. The raised beds include an herb garden, a pollinator garden, and vegetable gardens. The mural was created by parent Abigail Lewis-Bowen. A native plant garden, designed and planted by 7th graders, is adjacent to the CitySprouts garden. In 2016 an elementary class built an insect hotel from natural materials found in the garden. The garden has a shed and composter.

citysprouts gardenCitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the principle that all children should experience hands-on learning with real-world applications, support and practice in making good food choices, and a life-long connection to the natural world. CitySprouts’ garden educator is at the Kennedy-Longfellow school twice each week during the fall and spring to support teachers' lessons and projects in the school garden. CitySprouts has volunteer opportunities in the garden throughout the year, if you would like to get involved please email [email protected].
