The Kennedy-Longfellow School in the heart of East Cambridge! Due to our close proximity to Kendall Square we have cultivated multiple technological and corporate partnerships. Our second and third grade students are paired with volunteer Reading Buddies from the John A. Volpe National Transportation Center and our 5th graders are paired with “Keypals” from Draper Laboratory, IBM, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Our second grade students also work with volunteers from Pega Systems to create community service projects. These valuable relationships enrich our students’ educational experiences.
We also still benefit from a previous technology grant from Albert Merck. Our school has a full Makerspace with robotics, a green screen, a 3D printer, and access to coding applications. These technologies are used to enhance the curricula with additional hands-on problem solving opportunities. Our Instructional Technology Specialist works directly with the classroom teachers to create future “makers”!
Our vision for the Kennedy-Longfellow School is to challenge ALL students to become curious, active and engaged learners through culturally relevant curriculum and authentic classroom and field experiences that promote awareness of each individual’s role in a global community. We aim to achieve that vision by creating a supportive and nurturing school environment for the students, partnering with families and other organizations throughout the Cambridge community that support our students and families, and maintaining and enhancing our reflective, inquiry-based professional learning community of educators.
The Kennedy-Longfellow school is a place that embraces the whole child and our staff works diligently toward ensuring we meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of everyone in the building. We pride ourselves on teaching and living our school values of
Active Learning, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, and
Safety every day:
The Wildcat Way!
Our school also features ample outdoor play and recreational areas, a large auditorium, multiple activity spaces, and an expansive library. It is within easy walking distance to both the Red and Green subway lines, providing access to all of the Cambridge and Boston area. The Kennedy-Longfellow School has two different after-school programming options (
Kennedy Community School and
East End House) to serve the needs of working parents and offer enrichment programming to all students.
In addition, the Kennedy-Longfellow is the home of the
East Cambridge Preschool Program, a
Special Start Pre-K Program, the
Food & Nutrition Services Department, and the
City of Cambridge Transportation Office.
We are committed to creating a rigorous and supportive environment in which students are challenged to achieve at high levels. Please explore our website and learn more about our school and our programs. Thank you for visiting the KLO site!
