Junior Kindergarten

jk kidsThe junior kindergarten classroom uses a comprehensive curriculum system that includes experiences and activities that develop our students’ skills in language and literacy, social development, mathematics, science and inquiry, art, music, and physical development. The development of oral language skills and vocabulary is an important component of the early childhood experience. The junior kindergarten curriculum places a strong emphasis on such communication skills. Our classroom themes are based mostly on children’s interests.

The junior kindergarten team embraces a hands-on, integrated approach that encourages children to stretch themselves and grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. The team is committed to providing a junior kindergarten experience that fosters confidence in our students by helping them to realize their own capabilities and strengths as independent learners. The junior kindergarten academic year provides students with a strong foundation for their future learning experiences.

For every subject area, the junior kindergarten team utilizes the Work Sampling System in order to collect, maintain, and analyze information regarding students’ learning goals over the course of the school year. The information is shared with families through summary reports and portfolios at the conclusion of each quarter.
