When our students are learning math, HOW they get to their answers is a big focus. Students are encouraged to articulate what process they used. Did they count individually? Do they group by fives, tens or twenties? Classes will routinely break down a problem together in a Math Talk. This bulletin board shows how some of our SEI 1st graders break down a problem.
