There are many ways to help out in the school. Parents are encouraged to speak to classroom teachers (or the assigned Room Parent) about ways to help out in the classroom. Below are ways you can volunteer for the school in general. If you’re interested, please contact Nancy Wyse (or the contact listed).

K-Lo School Council: Each school has a School Council (sometimes called a “Site Council”). This group reviews our School Improvement Plan, plans school events and reviews policies. It is a group that includes administrators, teachers, parents and community members. The group meets once a month - usually from 5:30-7PM on Wednesday. Please contact Principal Gerber if you’re interested.

Friends of K-Lo: Friends of K-Lo is our parent run fundraising group! The group raises money for field trips, special events, student scholarships...whatever the school needs. It’s a great way to get involved and share creative ideas. We meet monthly (times are flexible) We will be discussing dates and times for ongoing monthly meetings. These meetings are open to all that want to help!

Weekend Backpack Program: This great district-wide program provides breakfast and lunch on the weekend for students that rely on school lunch for nutrition. We pack bags for over 40 families! We meet every Friday at 8AM in the school cafeteria to pack bags. It’s a low key, flexible way to help out.

K-Lo Market: The K-Lo Market is a free food Market that we hold on the last available Wednesday of the month from 2:30PM until the food runs out. We can use A LOT of help setting up before and restocking during the shopping time. We start set up at 11:30AM or so. We’d love to see you!

Cradles to Crayons: 4 times a year we take orders for Cradles to Crayons KidPacks, which are huge bags filled with weather appropriate clothing, footwear, books, and school supplies. On the delivery months we get 80+ bags to be sorted and distributed to families. These dates correspond to K-Lo Markets.

Library: Our Librarian, Susan Moynihan, is always looking for volunteers to help shelve books and organize our book fair. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity that helps all the kids in the school. If you would like to help in the library please contact the Librarian.

CitySprouts Garden: In the Fall and Spring we have a Garden Coordinator here to help the kids tend to our CitySprouts garden. If you are interested in helping with the garden please contact Alexandra.

The first step for most volunteer opportunities is filing out a CORI form (it is a law that anyone working with children has a criminal background check). These are available in the K-Lo Main Office or from your child’s classroom teacher..
