Cider PressingWith the help of our AWESOME CitySprouts Garden Coordinator, Shaylla Chess, all our kids got to press their own cider in our garden! They washed, cut, and pressed the apples themselves. It was a lot of hard work but totally worth it when they got to sample the product! Here is what a couple fourth graders said about their experience:

“First, my group went to the washing station...and we came up with a really good strategy. Me and Nuno passed the apples to Niveaha and Aden they had to wash them. They gave the apples to Samantha and put them in a box. We were so fast we did 3 apples in 5 seconds…..Then we went to the smashing station and we had to turn a wheel and the apples inside were cut and then we took them out. After that, we went to the chopping station and we just had to cut the apples with knives. Last, all of us went outside we had to turn the wheel one by one and then the juice came out.” --Thamis

“...we had some strong muscles....everybody was able to do it, everybody was strong….we made apple cider and finally drank apple cider. It was delicious, it was so yummy. It’s like now we could make apple cider at home. Best time ever!!!”--Angel

It was a great experience for kids of all ages.

Thanks, Shay!
