Junior Kindergarten Literacy

jk literacyThe primary focus of the literacy curriculum in Junior Kindergarten is the development of oral language and early literacy skills. Such early literacy skills include book/print knowledge, phonological/phonemic awareness, emergent writing, and alphabet knowledge. Junior kindergarten students explore, learn, and use language in ways that promote talking, reading, and writing. The junior kindergarten team utilizes a repertoire of instructional approaches that foster literacy development. They include read alouds, shared reading, modeled/shared/interactive writing, independent writing, storytelling, singing and rhyming, and guided play.

Through our partnership with Lesley University, Junior Kindergarten students have the opportunity to learn early literacy skills using several apps on the iPad.
