Dear Kennedy-Longfellow Parents and Guardians:
On behalf of the faculty and staff, welcome to the 2017-2018 school year and the Kennedy-Longfellow
School, a place where we encourage and nurture all students to become curious,
active, and engaged learners. We are a diverse and vibrant community of students, families,
and staff that work together to support the social, emotional, and academic needs of our children
and embrace the whole child.
It has been a busy summer here at the KLO. Our custodians, several teachers, and many
volunteers have been busy painting classrooms and hallways, waxing and buffing the floors,
building and creating new offices and spaces, and setting up warm and inviting classrooms for
the children when they return in a couple of weeks. Although I am always sad at the end of
summer and lament at how quickly it flies by, I so look forward to the structure and routines of
the school year and especially to seeing the children each and every day! Each new school
year brings with it the promise of a new beginning for our students - a new teacher, new
friendships, new learning, and new experiences. We hope that you are as excited for this
upcoming year and all the wonderful opportunities - academic, artistic, and social - that lie
ahead for your child.
At the Kennedy-Longfellow, the parents, teachers, and support staff are all part of a unified
community working hard to ensure the safety and well-being of all children while providing them
with a challenging and rewarding educational experience. As parents, you play an integral role
in the education of your child. Your involvement in your child’s education will help your child
achieve more success and have a positive outlook on school. Please be sure to read the
monthly newsletters and
calendar from our family Liaison, Nancy Wyse, and check out our
school website. Get to know your child’s teacher and stay updated on classroom and school
events. Ensure your child attends school daily and arrives on time (7:55AM) ready for the day’s
learning experiences. Visitors are always welcome at the KLO, and I encourage you to stop in.
When visiting, please enter through the main doors and obtain a visitor's pass in the office
before proceeding to the desired location.
We invite you to become an active member in the school community through volunteering. We
have many options such as joining our
School Council, joining our
Friends of the KLO (newly
formed parent group), helping out with our monthly KLO Food Markets, attending one (or more)
of our monthly parent coffees, or helping out on Friday mornings with our Weekend Backpack
program. There is no shortage of opportunities to get involved and we always welcome new
ideas.
The 2017-2018 school year promises to be one filled with excitement, learning and growth.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have at 617.349.6842 or at

Best,
Christine Gerber
